When her first grandson entered Kindergarten Pepper started volunteering with Care For Kids. She would read to a small group of children. Her grandson always sat closest to her on these days…proudly claiming her as “MY Grandma.”
The first day of Kindergarten the teacher wanted to know what Pepper would like the kids to call her. Since her own children called her “Grandma Pepper” she thought that would be the best name.
When the teacher introduced her by name, Pepper’s grandson jumped to his feet and shouted, “NO! That’s what I call you! They can call you ‘Pepper Grandma’.”
Throughout the halls to this day the sweet mentor who reads to kids is known as “Pepper Grandma.”
Pepper Grandma now reads with the advanced readers for several classes – – raising the bar and setting high expectations.
